Let the gardening begin

These were my garden endeavors after the last frost...at least I hope it was the last.   I planted a few plants and a few seeds.

                                         My little cactus garden

Going to add these to my cactus pot

                                                  I bought a fig tree!!

A few new herbs and such to plant

Herb containers. These survived the winter

My Meyer lemon tree still looks puny this year....help?

                                            Flowering clover in a pot

My new raised bed garden. Tomatoes, eggplant, parsley, beans, peas
padron peppers, carrots, spinach, lettuce, radishes. Some are seeds so
i do not know how they will do

                                          Planted a blackberry and a raspberry...yummo

What do you know...A garden fairy princess!

The Neglected Garden

This is the neglected garden that was on the side of the garage of the house we bought. It seems to have been a rose garden. I will try to keep some of the roses, but a vegetable garden is what I want.
Front Garden Gate with overgrown trellis.

Looking through to the back gate.....hoping to expand the garden to the back fence.

One of the roses still blooming in January after a hard freeze.

One of the hidden "treasures among the weeds.

A few more hidden treasures in the garden.

The back gate that leads to the back of the garage.

I imagine this was a pretty little rose garden at one time.
I hope to make it a successful vegetable garden.

I bought a new gardening book

I am really ready to get my vegetable gardening going.  I think I will do both containers and raised beds.
Our new house has an ideal neglected garden area.  I will take "before" pictures when the rain stops.
I bought a new book to help me plan what to plant and when.  In the past I just randomly planted.

I have started thumbing through my new Texas Garden Almanac.  Maybe the ground will dry up a little this week so I can go outside and get a better look at my space.  I really missed having a garden last year.  I hope that the birds don't come in and destroy it.  I've already been planning on how to put up netting to protect my "crop."

I am still waiting on my herb book to arrive.  I still have a few herbs that have survived in a container with no attention from me. Hopefully this book will arrive soon.

I'll back in the garden soon

Wow have I been gone a really long time.  My quality of life was slowly slipping away.  I was hurting all over and feeling weak and fatigued.  Even though I was going to the gym to work out twice a week I just never felt good.  In June 2010 I ended up with torn cartilage in my knee and had surgery.  I spent about 4 months in physical therapy to get my knee to straighten and bend completely.  It never happened.  I finally went back to a rheumatologist and for the second time was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.  That is a diagnosis I just never "believed in."  I was at the end of my rope so I went ahead and took the medication he prescribed.  On the fourth day on the medication I felt like a person again.  My leg was better, my random aches were gone, and I had energy.   Now I am back in the game and starting to live.  I am signed up for a series of stained glass classes, I have sewing projects to work on, a new garden that is dying for some TLC, and lots of reading and learning to do about writing.   I also plan on keeping up with my blogs.
